Three Hills / Ampersand – СЛИВА: Smoked Plum Baltic Porter

Very excited to introduce our @ampersandbrewco collab: Smoked Plum Baltic Porter!

You may already know that the Russian Imperial Stout was developed to ensure English stouts could survive the perilous voyage to St Petersburg and beyond, but did you know that the Russian Imperial Stout has a homegrown Eastern European cousin? To meet the insatiable demand for strong stout, brewers in the regions around the Baltic Sea started making their own high-strength dark beers. However, due to colder climates brewers were forced to use lager yeasts and so was born the Baltic Porter, which today even has a national day in Poland!

We brewed our take on the style with what can only be described as a robust malt bill. The beer was then cold fermented & left this beauty to lager over the holiday season & throughout January. To accentuate its provenance, & depth of flavour, even further we added some tasty little Polish smoked plums. The result is a delectably malty brew showing off the classic toffee, dried fruit, and dark chocolate flavours of a Baltic Porter, accompanied by a sweet jamminess that takes it to the next level.
